The East/West Golf Classic
The Bill Dickey Scholarship Association’s major fundraising event is the East/West Golf Classic held annually in January.  The number of participants attending the event has significantly grown from 132 players in 1983 to 370 attendees in 2008.  This event has received national accolades as a direct result of excellent tournaments, sponsors and participant support.  The great weather and golf courses in Phoenix, Arizona is the foundation on which the organization has achieved success.  Our annual revenue has increased over the years from $5,000 to over $225,000 annually.   We have awarded over $ 2.5 million in scholarships to over 960 minority students nationwide.
In addition, our goal is to broaden the horizons toward youth leadership, development and academic achievement. We have had a major impact in this area through the Bill Dickey Invitational Junior Golf Championship.

Bill Dickey Invitational Junior Golf Championship (BDI):
This tournament was implemented for the purpose of showcasing the talents of the top minority junior golfers in the country so that they can compete in an all expense paid tournament.  The Bill Dickey Invitational Junior Golf Championship enables 44 minority junior and high school players with single-digit handicaps to compete in a 36-hole medal play tournament.  We have eight first place winners. The experience is invaluable! Last years BDI boys champion, Harold Varner, III won the Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach.

Second Annual BDSA Alumni Event
The Bill Dickey Scholarship Association is very fortunate to have supported several minority youth who have successfully graduated and achieved their educational goals and aspirations.  The Alumni Association will held its Second Annual BDSA Alumni Event in connection with the East/West Golf Classic - January, 2008 in Scottsdale, Arizona.  This forum gave our alumni the opportunity to reconnect, network and implement mentoring for new and existing youth to pursue their dreams.
